For our family only—due to safety reasons most of our projects are currently limited to our family and personal selves only. We are not extending to or inviting community or public. What I am doing is sharing the structure and guidelines so others can build something likewise, if they wish so. We did have an intent to start publishing books, but it is on hold. Thank you.
The eco(logical)-feminine Library is an idea that emerged spontaneously in 2023. The sum of it is that I am intentionally curating a collection of books for my daughter, and that collection spans books on nature, biology, behavior, science, animals, art, fashion, general knowledge, herbalism, space, crafting, magical realism, adventure, mountaineering and sports, childhood, psychology (age-appropriate), business, religion, interfaith and intercultural studies, climate, and so much more. We are focusing on books that are written for, about, and by women. There is a surprisingly large collection to be made out there!
We are centering women’s lives, voices, points-of-view, stories, concerns, knowledge and health.
We are centering soul and spirit.
We are centering purpose and values.
We are centering sovereignty and autonomy.
We are centering self-knowledge and knowing the world around you in a steady and neutral manner
We are centering theory, processing, and practice.
We are centering evidence, and we are centering storytelling.
Mama is building her daughter a library like no other, validating her inner girl, her ancestors and her lineages and futures to come.
Mama is showing her paths, choices, and possibilities.
Mama is showing her that she is both a rational and a sensitive human being.
Mama is letting her travel places through books, helping her meet a caste of character, personality growth arcs and timelines.
Mama is raising a curious and fascinated child who also incrementally builds and binds her values and opinions and articulates them, instead of remaining dependent on others for handouts of thoughts, outlook and opinions.
2023 was the year that I had to stop and rest and go into retreat mode, hunkering down in a room and writing, designing, plotting ideas and initiatives, codifying my knowledge and turning knowledge into products, projects and initiatives. On the parallel runs a deep apocalyptic theme in my life that has both a personal and a collective origin: the personal is that I feel I am aging and not learning and doing all the things that I wanted to do, nor am able to hold on to or grow whatever I have accomplished but rather that the time is reversing and we are living someone else’s ideas and dreams. The collective is the sense of both fear and decay rising in the world along with accomplishment, growth, and improvement in global values and lives.
Things are changing quickly and we not only want to do the right thing but also to connect to the world around us. We not only want to author our own lives intentionally but also create impact and perhaps guide a few others alongside us.
It is for this purpose that I (Ramala Hubb’Allah) have created a publishing imprint, Alam-e-Nau. I intend to acquire books for us and, if life and capacity permits, bring the same knowledge to others.
I also wish I had a physical library somewhere. This doesn’t currently look possible so I am comfortable with moving, and also distributing the books that we have read, so that others can access the light. The idea is not just to educate ourselves but also create illumination in the world around us, uplifting women & girls, and children and youth especially while also creating bridges with men if and where needed while keeping femininity centered.
